WEEK 25: JUNE 17TH, 2024 

TOPIC - HEARING & DOING: KEYS TO GOD'S ’s BLESSINGS

TEXT: JAMES 1:25

But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.

Galatians 4:1-2 speaks of how the heir must be under tutors and governors until the time appointed of the father. The award of a B.Sc is not given simply because a student has done the required 4 or 5 years at the university. 

The degree is awarded only if the student has demonstrated the ability to study, learn, think critically, and solve problems posed to him in his field of study.

Otherwise, at the appointed time of graduation, he must stay the extra year until he satisfies all requirements by the university. In Jesus' name, whilst others are progressing to the next level, may you not be spending an extra year on the same spot (Amen).

Friends, what guarantees graduation & progression in vision is that we are hearing well and learning well.

This week, we will examine 4 types of hearers of God’s word. (Lk 8:18a)

1. Reactive Hearers 

If you find yourself resisting instructions or reacting to godly correction, you are on this table. You may even be a minister or leader; this attitude will limit the effectiveness of God’s word and His divine work in your life. Please repent today and seek personal counsel that will help you.

2. Selective Hearers

These people selectively choose message and topics they listen to. They are constantly looking for “New Revelation”, “New Rhema” and “New teachings, just to gratify or rubber-stamp their own lopsided view of “truth”.

Jesus & his teachings remain the eternal truth. It is not normal if you are hyper during a prophetic service but sleepy in a discipleship session.

2Tim 4:3 (NLT) – For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear.

3. Forgetful Hearers

These set of people hear God’s word; they get an instruction but cannot sustain the word in their heart unto obedience.

If you keep making the same mistakes, repenting of same sin, or you’re unable to sustain the commitment(s) you made to God last year, you are a forgetful hearer.

4. Faithful Hearers 

You are a faithful hearer if you don’t just hear but faithfully commit to doing what He commands, then you will find the blessing.

James 1: 25 says…”he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”.

Repent where needed, ask for help where necessary. May you find grace to hear, learn, and do the word of God to you in Jesus' name, Amen!
